The Route 66 is Richmond Yacht Club’s “short” coastal race – from Auckland to Whangarei over 66nm. Organised in association with Onerahi YC and supported by SSANZ, the race includes open keeler, multihull and singlehanded divisions.

With a 9AM start you’ll finish Friday evening with time to join in the party at Marsden Cove Marina. This is a good introduction to coastal racing for new boats as the safety requirements are Cat 4+ and the fleet stays within the barrier islands.

This year’s race is on Friday 6th March 2015.

What are the safety requirements?

Cat 4 PLUS jackstays and lifelines (to cat 3 requirements, so cat 3 cats are good to go), an in-service liferaft or a positively buoyant dinghy ready to deploy, and an EPIRB/PLB and some other safety goodies in a grab bag.  The final requirements are on the Sailing Instructions.

Is PHRF required?

Nope.

Race Tracking?

Yes! We have set up tracking with the PredictWind race tracker. Instructions are here. Annnnd, the top boat on handicap that tracks their race will win a 1 Year Predict Wind professional subscription worth NZ$499!

Berthing at Marsden Cove?

Marsden cove provides free berthage to race boats from arrival Friday night to departure on Saturday. If you need more time please contact the marina.  On arrival a berthing master will be on hand to direct you to your berth. The marina can accommodate multihulls with ease! Party, Breakfast, and Prizegiving?

Boats are encouraged to have a great time on arrival at Marsden Cove but please be respectful of the marina and the people working and staying there. OYC cooks up a fantastic $10 breakfast starting at 7AM – bring cash and go to the events tent to get your plate. The prizegiving follows soon after and all should be done by 9:30AM.
