2013-14 HSS Series Results
The series results are now posted to the RYC Results page or just click here. Thanks to all the competitors – the series prizegiving will be held in conjunction with the RYC Annual Prizegiving on Friday June 27th. Winners will be contacted with details for attending.
Race 1: WBC Singlehanded Race 1
The first race in the 2013-14 HSS is Race 1 in the Weiti Boating Club‘s Shorthanded Series on October 13th. The NOR and other information is posted above and will be available from Weiti BC before the race – word is that the start will be from Arkles Bay at 1300. Please take your own finish times as txt them to Colin at 021 711252.
Last year they sent us around McKenzie Buoy and the Haystack before we turned into a grueling beat back to Arkles. This is a great chance for the Auckland townies to mix with the dedicated shorthanders up North on their home waters.
A reminder that you will need to enter both the HSS (details above) and each individual race to compete in the HSS. Entries for the individual races are to be lodged with the host clubs, not RYC. You can pay your fees via bank transfer (Weiti Boating Club 03 0419 0006778 000)
Entries to WBC need to be in prior to the race start and the single day’s race will cost $15. If you want to race all of the WBC’s excellent summer shorthanded events pony up $50 for their series.
Race 2: RYC Singlehanded Race
The second race in the series is Richmond YC’s singlehanded race on 3 Nov 2013.
HSS series entrants should enter either division C or D for the RYC race, depending on their handicap – both divisions start at the same time. (see update2 below)
RYC’s singlehanded race is run from Westhaven ODM, is a harbour course, and is NO EXTRAS – please keep your kites in the bag. This makes it a great introduction to singlehanded racing and levels the field for bigger boats and less experienced skippers.
UPDATE2: As the C and D disvisions race different courses all HSS boats should enter and race in division C unless otherwise notified.
Race 3: BBYC Race 1
The third race in the 2013-14 Hauraki Singlehanded Series is the first race in the BBYC’s “BJ Tyres” singlehanded series on November 24th, starting at 1PM. Last year there were over 20 boats on the line and it was a highlight of the year. For more information please check out the Notice Of Race, website, and courses. This is a race around Motuihe, starting at Motukorea beacon area with both open and restricted categories. All HSS boats should enter the OPEN division. To get a copy of the BBYC sailing instructions you will have to front up at the club.
This is the last race to enter the HSS before the drops will affect your series score, so get your entry in! We will accept late entries straight straight through the series and backdate results so long as you are series compliant. But please get your series in – supports singlehanded racing and only costs 20$ after all. After the next race it will become more and more a fee to join the party at the end!
UPDATE 1: Please note that the HSS NOR has the date wrong – the race is on November 24th as per the BBYC NOR.
UPDATE 2: Please note that the BBYC NOR also has an error in the schedule of events – the race will be held on Sunday, November 24th – not November 21st.
Races 4 and 5: BBYC S/H Races 2 and 3 – weekend away!
The fourth and fifth race in the 2013-14 Hauraki Singlehanded Series are part of the “weekend away” in BBYC’s “BJ Tyres” singlehanded series. Here’s the plan: grab your boat, race to the bottom end of Waiheke with your mates, have a party catered by BBYC’s sponsors, then race home the next day, perfect. For more information please check out the Notice Of Race, website, and courses.
Race 6: Route 66 singlehanded division
The next race is the BIG ONE – 66nm from Auckland to Whangarei! See the event page for more details. lats year we had 11 entrants – can we get more this year? Even if you are not in the series consider joining in this event – one of the biggest singlehanded sailing challenges that NZ has to offer!
Race 7: DYC Singlehanded Race
The last race in the 2013-2014 HSS is the DYC singlehanded race – a classic loop of Rangitoto, Mototapu and Motuihe that usually is a battle of tactics and sail changes as you will experience all points of sail and a host of tidal patterns! All HSS boats should enter Div 1 (extras). Start is 9AM on Saturday, April 12th from the torpedo buoy area. NOR | SI | EF | WEBSITE
After the race we’ll contact the skippers to see when to hold the prizegiving and party.
