Race 5 Update 17th March.
We will be sailing Course 10, starting at Westhaven, with the likelyhood of shortening at Illiomama Buoy. Saturday BBQ will still be at Piemelon Bay, to the East of Onetangi Bay. Watch out for the Rangitoto to St Helliers swim first thing Sunday morning.
We’re going back to basics with the 2016-17 RYC Cruising Series. Competitive and/or fun, your choice, better courses, better parties! You don’t need to be RYC member to join in this year, we are encouraging new boats and friendly yachts to come along as well. Come join us! (EF | NOR)
For the second Waiheke race – we are expecting light winds and a contrary tide, so a perfect weekend-on-the-boat conditions, but not great for the race. Nonetheless, we’d like to get a race in, so expect a change in course to one of the shorter courses (course number will be posted on the start tower or committee boat), a possible Northern Leading start (check the RYC tower for Flag ‘C’ by 1730 hours), and shortening of the coarse at marks, including likely headlands. We will give more information to the fleet as possible once a plan is chosen – monitor VHF Ch 62.
For the Saturday evening beach party and prizegiving, given the Southerlies expected, we will gather on the Northern side of Waiheke at one of the Eastern Beaches in Onetangi (Piemelon Bay or Woodlands Bay). We will update by VHF Ch 62 at 1630 on Saturday. If you miss the VHF updates contact the committee boat or the RO (Bryon). Have a great weekend!
Warning!: The Auckland Central Master Swimmers will be holding the Rangitoto to St Heliers Harbour swim on Sunday 19th March 2017. The swim will start at 0900 hours from Rangitoto Wharf, some 550 competitors will swim across the harbour to St Heliers Beach finishing no later than 1130 hours. The Swim course will be marked with large yellow buoys and the swimmers will be escorted across the harbour by Auckland Coast Guard patrol vessels and kayaks will accompany the swimmers.
What’s that? I can win a 2HP outboard?
Yes! As a bonus thanks to Coolstore Construction we’re giving away a new Yamaha 2HP outboard, to make one lucky cruiser’s trip to shore a bit easier.
To win, join in – we’ll have a random draw at the last prizegiving of the season (15 April) and you get one entry per boat for every Cruising Series race you start in and one entry per boat for showing up to the prizegiving / party (for racers and cruisers!).
